Report: Chery Cole's Condition Said to Be 'Worsening'
The star’s condition was said to be worsening, with medics worried she could suffer long-term damage to her vital organs.
Cheryl, 27, is being treated at a special London hospital that deals with life-threatening tropical diseases.
She will remain under a 24-hour watch until the end of the week at least and is unlikely to be back at work for six weeks.
Yesterday her mum Joan Callaghan, 50, looked downcast and exhausted as she was spotted outside the clinic where she has been keeping a bedside vigil. Cheryl’s dancer pal Derek Hough, 25, is also said to have paid a visit.
A source said: “It is a lot more serious than first thought. Everyone was convinced she would pull through after 24 hours, but there have been no signs of improvement.
“She is very ill and won’t be out of hospital for a while. Everyone is holding their breath.
“Because of her hectic schedule, the malaria has really taken a hold. She has not got the physical strength to beat it. She is going to need all of her Geordie grit to win this battle.”
Cheryl is believed to have picked up the bug during a trip to Tanzania with Derek.
The star had put herself under enormous strain with a hectic work schedule, including a tour with Black Eyed Peas and an emotional divorce wrangle with love-cheat husband Ashley, 29.
She collapsed during a photoshoot in London on Saturday and was taken to the private Cromwell Hospital, west London, the following day. She was then transferred to the Hospital For Tropical Diseases at University College London.
Infectious diseases specialist Martin Wiselka, of University Hospital, Leicester, said: “Cheryl will be feeling rough, like she has really bad flu.
“It depends how bad it is. If it is caught in the early stages, malaria can just affect you like a bad flu. But it can affect all parts of your body and your organs, including your heart.”
Cheryl could be forced to put her professional life on hold for up to six months.
Her management team are preparing to pull her out of an appearance at next month’s V Festival and may also postpone the October launch of her second solo album.
It was confirmed yesterday that Cheryl will not be taking up her seat on the X Factor panel for auditions in Manchester tomorrow. It is likely she will be ruled out for the rest of the audition process,
Simon Cowell’s ex Sinitta, 43, has asked fans to pray for Cheryl, adding: “I’m so sad about Tweedy-pie! All of you prayer warriors out there please let’s pray en masse for her complete recovery.”
WOW! With that said I really hope and pray Chery Cole can pull out of this. How this happens to such a nice person completely baffles me. This just goes to show nobody is immune to deadly diseases, not even celebrities. HOWEVER, PLEASE NOTE THE SOURCE: THE DAILY STAR
